When you print the QTR calibration target (QTRgui: tools|options|calibration mode) what dMax do you get? This is the best that you can hope for. If the canned profile yields lower dMax then the likely culprit is the gray overlap that mixes in some of the next lighter ink into the black. It is often a tradeoff between a smoother ramp aided by overlap of lighter shades and dMax. I wish Roy would allow different overlaps between each ink pair rather than the one-size fits all.
