Hello, I'm looking for advice and sources of information on digitally toning prints. I've done this only once a few years ago using Photoshop's duotone/quadtone features after finding an example on the net. I don't like this method because it forces me to go down to an 8 bit file and I prefer to preserve my files at 16 bit depths throughout. I'm hoping Amadou Diallo's new book covers this topic but from the TOC I can't tell. I know this is possible in a few different ways i.e. within Lightroom, PS or through profiles such as PFP. The toning I like the most if selenium toning and would love to be able to approximate it reasonably well but I wouldn't mind trying others out as well. Here is my setup: Lightroom, PSCS2, QImage Studio, Epson 2200 w/ Ultra Chrome Inks. I'm well aware of specialized inks but I do not print enough B&W images yet so I would prefer to work my way up using the Matt Black cartridge until I get more then my feet wet. I have the following difficulties: 1° Is there a chart somewhere that lists which constituent colors and relative ratios to use to approximate a given toning process digitally? The only ones I have been able to find are usually sepia based. 2° I have somewhat of a feel for it from the perspective of PFP barring 1° but how do you guys achieve this look in PS without down sampling the image to 8 bits? 3° I have yet to try out Lightroom's split toning controls but they seem easy to use once you figure out 1°. Have any of you tried it with good results? Would you be willing to share tips and tricks? Do you prefer doing this in PS? Why? 4° Is it possible to tone one image and be able to print it or convert it for use on the web without having to process the file differently? Thanks for taking time to help me out. Pierre
