I'm not sure that I am the right person to reply to this as there are many on the forum much more expert in these matters than me, however my take is as follows: I don't see any particular benefits to using Qimage for printing B&W by itself as it uses the Epson print driver, albeit it does have very good layout and sharpening tools. I do however use it as part of my B&W workflow together with QTR when I want to put multiple images on a page. Used like this you "print to file" in Qimage and then print the file in QTR. This works really well. I don't use UT7 but do use UT-R2 inks which are similar in concept. Using QTR allows me to load both warm and neutral inks at the same time (as is the case with UT7) and then blend the inks as required. In addition it also allows you to produce split tone prints which are a particular favourite of mine. The simple blending can be done in the Epson driver using the sliders but I don't think it is possible to produce a split tone without resorting to using Photoshop Curves and lots of experimentation. Whilst some may find this enjoyable, and there is no doubt that it gives infinite flexibility, I much prefer the quick and easy approach QTR gives me. Using a dedicated 2200 and MISUT7, I'm currently happiest with Epson's driver. With OEM pigs I liked QTR tone control, but all my B&W is now with UT7 and I've not found any advantage to QTR with that ink...when I want a little tone control, I change papers. Some say Qimage offers advantages with OEM pigs but I've never seen comment on it in combo with UT7. Any B&W advantages to Qimage (other than for professional labs or high volume work)? Anybody prefer QTR over Epson with UT7 ? Why? [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
