They are just to the left of the parking pad.  Unfortunately, Epson is
making them increasingly hard to get to.  On the 2200 it with draws to a
spot under a metal plate.  You'll see the rail it comes out on when you move
the head to the left.

No, although particularly on an old 1280 it might be a very good practice.
Just using the printer at least once a week seems to keep them running fine.
