Far less ink cartridge replacements (and higher ink economy) is reason
enough to make the switch.

No aftermarket ink possiblities (that I know of) but considering that the
problems I had with 3rd party inks on the 2400 perhaps this is a blessing.

I cannot comment on the "Pro-ness" of the 3800 vs. the 2400. The final straw
for me with the 2400 was its refusal to load certain papers reliably --
especially matte papers. No such problems (yet) with my 3800.

Same for the ditter pattern. I just don't look that close. I just finished a
custom print job (24 color prints scanned from slides) for a customer and
the prints look pretty darn good IMHO all things considered.
