Far less ink cartridge replacements (and higher ink economy) is reason enough to make the switch. No aftermarket ink possiblities (that I know of) but considering that the problems I had with 3rd party inks on the 2400 perhaps this is a blessing. I cannot comment on the "Pro-ness" of the 3800 vs. the 2400. The final straw for me with the 2400 was its refusal to load certain papers reliably -- especially matte papers. No such problems (yet) with my 3800. Same for the ditter pattern. I just don't look that close. I just finished a custom print job (24 color prints scanned from slides) for a customer and the prints look pretty darn good IMHO all things considered.
