It may simplify the printing process for less demanding users, but if you don't like the ramp it gives you on a given paper, you are still stuck correcting that with more color ink, via a color process... thats why I see the HP "black and gray only" printing method as less, not more. I print with it on one fine art paper, and its cool in the shadows, but not in the highlights. On another its quite warm throughout, but more warm in some areas than others.
