RE: [Digital BW] Innova Fiba Print roller marks

2007-09-05 by stephengledhill

I just found a single sheet of Innova Semi-Matte in an A4 sample pack I have
from Innova. To try out the suggestion I printed a standard image on it
(4800 / K3 / ABW / PK) - one which I also have to hand on the Innova Warm
Tone and Museo Silver Rag. The semi-matte also displays the same roller
marking - albeit slightly less noticeable. Nice paper finish though - but
stark white compared with the other two; the Innova Warm Tone being VERY
warm, even compared with the Silver Rag.

I then took these 3 prints in a stack and staggered them in the direction of
the print travel through the printer so they overlapped an inch or so.
Holding up to glancing light for maximum visibility of the marks the two
Innovas showed the roller marks clearly lined up on the prints but so did
the Silver Rag although it was minor in comparison. I just hadn't noticed
it before :-((

On all three prints it is only on the leading edge of the print showing the
marking. It extends 3.5 inches along the paper then quickly peters out. It
is best seen on unprinted paper so I sacrificed a sheet to show this to
'best' effect. It seems to be something to do with the initial pick up of
the paper by the feed mechanism.

Question: Is it possible to print without any evidence of surface damage to
ANY paper on the 4800 (mine) and 7800 (Mike's). Maybe it's just these
heavier (stiffer) papers?

You might want to try the Innova Semi-Matte. I just did and I actually
prefer it to all of the others. It has an outstanding dynamic range
and sharpness and gamut and what I like about it is you can just lay
it on the table or in a portfolio. Unlike fully glossy papers it
doesn't show reflections and is very easy to look at in any light.

I haven't used enough of it to know if there are any problems with
marks but I haven't seen any yet.
