I have noticed the same banding near the edges on prints made using my R300 and to a lesser extent (but still present) with my R2200. This is not a factor with my R2400, even under the loupe, so Epson seems to have addressed the issue on newer models. I have heard it is a problem on the R800 and also the R1800, although I cannot verify this. Over time, I have observed that it is, in fact, a paper transport issue. If the printer is still printing while the paper is being advanced with only one set of rollers as opposed to two (as the paper has run out), then banding results. As a result, I have to print on larger papers and I "no longer squeeze 4 6"x9" prints on a sheet of 13"x19" or 2 8"x12" prints. One solution is to tape a header and footer strip of the same thickness paper to the sheet, but that is both time-consuming and a hassle.
