If I can borrow a term from the darkroom, "careful" printers are probably a niche too small for them to even notice. At first I thought well, then why is Epson so concerned? But then I realized that unfortunately we are getting lumped in with average users who have no interest in better quality but who will buy cheaper ink. There are, for instance, refilling outfits. There is a chain of them here. This must be what Epson's concerned about, where you can buy a small printer knockoff cart for about $9 as opposed to $25 or whatever Epson carts are (it's been a long time since I've bought one : ) There's a very well-written letter to Bush on the QuadtoneRIP list by Daniel Jackson which sums up the concerns well.
