Sorry but the email below got compounded into looking like it was all from
me. Part of it is from Walt and part my reply. I've tried to separate them
below.

Walt,

[SJG ... >>>] Walt said ... On the Ilford Silk, I ordered a second box from
a different supplier
to see if the sheets would be cleaner, but they're not--longitudinal
abrasions and "pox" marks on the surface. I've actually printed two
profiling targets on different sheets and both have been unusable
because of defects in the paper. I think this is out for me.

[SJG ... >>>] I responded ... Shame about your experience with the Gold
Fibre Silk. I'd take it up with
Ilford directly - they ought to respond favourably. Bad publicity about
their products, especially when they're so new, is something they won't want.
I worked for Ilford for 12 years (up to about 22 years ago so not recently)
and am familiar with the sort of things that can go wrong with the coating
of papers. However, nowadays the inkjet papers can be manufactured in white
light facilitating visual inspection of the manufacturing process - unlike
light sensitive papers (and film) which is manufactured in the dark! So -
no longer any good excuses for blemished product reaching the market.

I'm printing from two 50 sheets boxes of the GFS - A2 size - without a hint
of a blemish. Trouble is that sort of comment is tempting fate - the very
next sheet will probably be faulty!

[SJG ... >>>] Walt said ... I have profiles for the Harman at both 1440 and
2880 and compared two
prints of the same image. Yes, the ink looks as good at 2880, very
integrated. I do also fine a subtle bit of refinement in the image
at 2880, and it is probably worth using. I don't know what Harman's
recommendations are based on. They also sugggest a paper selection
of Watercolor (matte) for the 4800, 7800 and 9800 as compared to
Premium Semigloss for most other printers. I used Premium Glossy 250
and that seems to work fine.

[SJG ... >>>] I responded ... I select the Premium Semi Gloss Photopaper
(250) as the basis for my ABW
printing.

[SJG ... >>>] Hope that's clearer!
