Bob, Appreciate the detailed response on Vista 64. I am getting ready to build my new machine as was struggling with the Memory issue limitations of XP and looking at Vista 32 and 64. What advantages do you see of 64 over 32? Not many native 64 programs out there yet/ Paul From: DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com [mailto:DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of Bob Frost Sent: Wednesday, January 30, 2008 11:17 AM To: DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com Subject: Re: [Digital BW] Scratch Disk Paul, > Curious as to your motive for the 64 bit version. Partly curiosity; partly because it seems more secure and more stable now that MS has stopped 3rdparty programs furkling about in its innards; and partly so that I can use the full 8GB ram that my mobo supports and which CS2/CS3 and the OS can use for scratch disk space. Also MS are doing 25-50% discounts on Vista until the end of January, presumably to clear the current stock before the new SP1 version hits the shops. > Were you able to get all the drivers that you need? I'm well pleased with Vista 64bit so far. All my main programs - CS2, LightRoom, Office2003, and the Nikon programs CaptureNX, ViewNX, and Transfer all seem to work fine. Utilities such as DOpus9 file manager, Xxcopy, JV16, RescuePro, ImageRescue, IE PrivacyKeeper, Diskeeper, and SpyBot work fine. I had to switch from ZoneAlarm to Kaspersky Security suite since ZA hasn't been updated yet. Hardware drivers may take some time to find, but my Epson R2400 printer and Laserjet P2015 printer work; my Epson 3200 scanner works under twain, but the main Epson Scan/Copy program hasn't been updated yet. BasicColor display and i1 Match seem to work OK with an updated drive for my i1, as does my Acronis TrueImage backup program. All in all, switching to V64 (dual-booting with XP Pro) has been fine. I'm already using it as my preferred OS, and only going back to XP for one or two things that I haven't sorted out yet. One has to learn a few new tricks, as with any new OS, and some of the extra security can be a pain until you learn how to turn it off! Personally, I seem to be having far fewer troubles with V64 than many people are having with Leopard!
