Digital BW, The Print

Hi, I've seen that with new epson printers it is not possible to use 
B&W cartridges from other manufacturers.

I would like to buy a new or used printer to print B&W, if possible 
not expensive. What should I buy? And where? Is there any retailer who 
sells old (epson or other's) printers with the B&W cartridges already 
ready?

Sorry for these basic questions, but I would like to start somewhere, 
and in Italy, where I live, it is not possible to buy used nor to get 
infos about this "hobby"...
