I am happy to report that after testing every single channel with the 21 steps file using custom curves in QTR that Paul Roark was right (again? ;-) ). I was surprised to notice that the worst channels in my R1800 where MK, K and GL. Then C. The best where Y and M followed closely by R and B. So I am now using 3MK with these channels: Y, M and R. I assigned the largest values covering curve to the Y channel. Then the 2nd one to M and third to R. It prints... amazingly better! No more micro banding and seems overall a bit smoother too. I imagine R1800 sample variations do exist and that those who are having issues with their current channels selection might benefit from this channel testing and swapping. Thanks Paul!
