sounds like you may be in RGB, try grayscale for files 1/3 that size.
If you are concerned about what channel is used, there is a setting in
Silverfast allowing your preference-

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
