I hesitate to generalize based on only the one sample of a 1400 that
I have. However, my 1400, with only the single K channel printing,
is smoother than the 1800 with the 3-MK workflow. The 1800 can
achieve a slightly better dmax on a few papers. Additionally, I
suspect that there are marginal 1400s out there that are not built
well enough to print smoothly with only a single channel printing,
but I'm speculating on that.

It provides a lot of performance for the money. I think it might be
the best desktop value currently.

Matte paper does not bronze if that is the question. That's an
artifact that is associated only with glossy papers as far as I know.
