Hello All - I don't post too often to this terrific group, but always read the discussions, enthusiastically. I'm considering a new larger printer (I'm using a 2200 for B&W Piezo inks) and a 2400 for color.) - a 3800 or 4880, either of which could fit in my available space. At the photo show in NYC this past week, having looked at and discussed both printers with one of their engineers, I came away with one new thought, other than knowing the 4880 will print most any length paper, but has more efficient but much larger and therefore more expensive ink cartridges. However, MK and PK have to be manually switched, unlike the 3800 which limits one to 22 inches in length, and uses smaller carts, therefore less expensive, but less efficient ink usage. The new thought is that the 3800 has a straight through paper feed, which will print to 33 inches in length. However, it's designed for thick media - about 1.5 mm thick, to be exact. The engineer pointed out that printing on 350 gm paper would keep the ink heads too far from the media, and therefore, not be as sharp as it should be. I immediately thought of using an illustration board backing, placing the printing paper on top, held with tape or rubber based glue. He thought it might work, even though Epson would not honor the warrantee if something went wrong. That worries me less than the benefits gained, so I'm wondering if any of you have tried this method with a 3800? Your knowledge and ideas, and possible links for more info in this regard, would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Clayton Price Clayton Price Photographer www.cpricephoto.com clay@...
