Tom,

Yes, a little misunderstanding there. I'm currently using carts
(non-CIS) in an 1280. In the past I've used a nomorecarts CIS with
both Piezo and MIS VM ink in an 1160. Turning it on every day I
sometimes get clogs, sometimes don't. 50-50 maybe, too early to tell.

The first CIS (Piezo ink) almost never had a clogging issue- the
problem came when the Piezo ink system had a density shift over time.

The second CIS, with a brand new 1160 worked great for two months and
suddenly clogged fiercely with MIS VM after a two week period of
inactivity at 20%RH. Raising the bottles a bit didn't solve the issue,
but I agree it is a factor, so much so that now with the non CIS carts
in the 1280, I am trying to keep track of if I get more clogs when the
ink level status monitor gets lower or not. Hence, one of the items
listed in my original post.

This can get complicated. Consider that also at elevation, water boils
at a lower temperature. A CIS may undergo more evaporation over time
of the ink up here, say, just as one guess.
