The Nikon D1, D1x, D1h will all take almost every Nikon slr lens. The few that are problems are listed in the manual (available on Nikon tech for DL, I think). There are only a few... That have the glass on the back side stick out farther than others and that could damage the CCD. With the older ones, you will lose the auto focus, but the metering should work.
