how many prints does he need, and how quickly does he need them? what is your budget?

not to step on his budding interest in learning to do black and white and print, but it might be cheaper in the immediate time to have them printed by someone who has a quick turn around time and knows exactly what needs to be done and how to accomplish it with as little difficulties as possible.
i have heard great things about the 3800 doing very nice black and white prints, but if price is an issue that may not be something you want to invest in at this time.

good luck with his school project.

First, I apologize for the basic question but I am trying to help my 14
year-old son who has decided to start shooting digital B&W in addition
to color. We have discovered that our Cannon IP6600D does not do B&W
well. We need to get some prints done quickly for an
application/ portfolio he is working on.
Should I invest in another printed dedicated to B&W or head out to a
print shop of some sorts? Any suggested links, search terms or other
suggestions would be helpful. Thank you.
