I had exactly that problem when I got my set of UT-14 cartridges. There was no note in the box from MIS. The first bunch of prints were totally messed up and I was very depressed. After removing the tabs the carts work like a charm. Although I must say so far I'm disappointed in the number of prints - At this point I've gotten perhaps 8 8.5x11 and 20 6x4.
