Excellent suggestion.  Just did this with another paper I was
calibrating this evening.  Fussiness of moving around the selection
rectangle and hitting Ctrl-F to do the average filter was more than made
up for in the ease of reading off the L values after doing this.  Thanks!

I'm only doing matte papers, so none of them can get up to 2.0 anyway!
