You can get such prints made at nearly any decent sign shop these days. Anyone who does vehicle wraps should be able to help too because they're using the same stuff. There's no need to seek out a VuTek printer since many smaller machines are available from all the usual players. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Louis Dina" Arthur, 3M makes a product called ControlTac, which is a clear peel and stick material designed for printing billboards, images on the sides of trucks, etc. It can be B&W or color. If I am not mistaken, they use solvent based inks. I think they are using 6 or 8 color VuTek inkjet printers. It is designed to hold up in the environment, and you can get it laminated for even better protection. Applying the film to the substrate takes some expertise and practice. I mounted a 4' X 6' foot print on 1/4" thick paneling and have it hanging in my garage. The paneling I used was the material they use to build shower stalls, and the print is adhering to the shiny, white side. It is very permanent. I only did this once, but the quality was good, especially considering it was a digital original from a Canon 40D. I got the print from Calaway Systems in Courtland, Alabama. They do a LOT of this type of thing for people like FedEx, etc. If you want to talk to an expert about it, (who is also a rabid color management freak), contact Richard Brackin at Calaway...robrackn@.... There may be other alternatives that are better, but at least this is one worth considering.
