The surface of the negative is, however, slightly fragile - if you touch it with fingers you can smudge it, especially shortly after you print it. I put a thin sheet of transparent material between the negative and the coated paper when exposing and this prevents any transfer, especially where the paper is still slightly damp. I don't know if other inks have the same fragility, but I'd expect so. Some of that also depends on the ink load, which of course you can adjust in QTR.
