Question for Paul---HP PK vs MIS

2009-02-13 by brouwerkent

Hi Paul

I have been happily printing on 1400 combined with Ilford Gold Fibre. I made a modified
set using some of the MIS 1400 inks. I am using the MIS UT14 Cyan, UT14 Light Cyan, 1/2
LC-1/2Glop for my cool. For the warm toner I am using MIS K4 PK & K4 LK. Last position
is Glop. Using QTR and getting very nice results..

I am running low on the Cyan inks and am wondering if you are now recommending the
HP PK over the MIS 1400 Cyan inks.

Also, I have read your about the user built base. I am wondering if there is a recipe for
user made Glop? Since I am committed to the Ilford Gold Paper, I am definitely wanting to
minimize the gloss differential...so I have been working on the assumption that Glop as
the diluting agent is a help along with a glop position.

But I gather the HP inks may have an inherently better way of dealing with gloss
differential.

Regarding your comments about HP PK as being pretty cool...as long as it is a neutral
cool...this works for me. With the Ilford Gold Fibre, I have to be careful to not let it get to
warm. It can easily start looking like overtoned silver paper with too much of the straight
carbon inks. I am looking for neutral with a touch of warmth...kind of like silver selenium
toned...just a hint of warmth.

So wondering if I should just stay with what is working or are you perceiving the HP as a
superior system. My assumption is that all of these b&w inks are going to be pretty good
longevity wise.

Thanks

Phil Brouwer
