In my 1400 a single black only channel does very well.  I don't know if this is just my printer or if I'll continue to be so lucky.  All too often, what I find is microbanding if only a single channel is used.  It'd be terrific if Epson has it's manufacturing to the point where we can rely on one-channel, smooth prints.  I'm skeptical that my luck will hold.
