Yes; I did, both times for this list. I didn't use the files the 
first time, but I think that was only because I couldn't 
remember/find my ID and password.

I can in the case of the MacEpsonList, and I can't in the case of the 
Epson-Inkjet list.

Maybe. I'm fed up - I think a lot of people are - with tendencies 
toward intrusive bossiness, although I don't mind to pay for a 
subscription to things I value.
