There is a wide range of displays available, and you simply can't compare the low cost ones to the midprice ones (which most people would consider high priced) or either of those categories to the high end graphics displays. However, its not just the screens, its the color management: without controlling your ambient lighting, and balancing the screen's brightness to that, you are not going to see the shadow detail, even if the display can present it...
