I was just talking to someone at my local photo shop about this apparently color eyes profiling software can lower the brightness beyond normal adjustments during the profiling software, you can download a trial version and it supports most colorimeter/spectros.  Haven't tried it myself and don't own an imac. Not even sure how we got on the topic. The website is http://www.integrated-color.com/cedpro/coloreyesdisplay.html
