RE: [Digital BW] Kodak Ultima Satin

2002-02-17 by David J. Bookbinder

FWIW, even with standard Epson OEM color dye inks, I have to put images
through a curve that lightens the deepest blacks to dark gray in order to
avoid bronzing. Other than that, though, the Ultima papers are quite nice. I
believe they were originally designed for use with printers that have a
thermal print head, such as the Canon printers, then modified slightly to
accommodate other inksets. They failed completely with the Weink OEM-clone
inks.

Piotr,

This was discussed extensively a few (6) months ago on the PiezoBW forum.
Many, many posts on the Ultima Satin occured when it first came on the
market and many Piezo users tried it (me included).

The bronzing is a "characteristic" of using those inks on a glossy paper
like that. I don't anyone ever got away from that. Many tried.

Many tried coatings too. That lead to many threads on coating papers and
different mixes.

There are pages and pages of writings on these two topics on that forum
archives.

Have fun reading.

Steadman (by the way...I gave up on the paper...not usable in my
opinion for the look I want)

I have just received the Kodak Ultima Satin, after reading in the
archives of this list that some people reported having sucessfully
  printed on this paper.
I own a 1160 CFS with MIs VM and I have been trying to print some
images but so far the results are pretty bad(bronzing, banding)
Can anyone who uses this paper help me with this?
What papersettings do You use? Do You set the printer to + or do You
leave it in the normal position?
Any other things I should be aware of?
The texture of this paper is pretty nice and smooth.
Also, what about spraying? I remember that someone wrote once that he
sprays within 15 minutes after printing.Any suggestions?

I must also report to the listmembers that I have now been using the
CFS for a month now, I used up almost all my ink and didn't have a
single bad nozzle check. It works really great.

  Greetings
