Just a quick report on my recent resurrection of my old 740. I purchased a virgin set of carts from MIS along with a set of 4 oz. bottles of ink which should last me until they plant me in the ground... Filling went well with no problems although it seems that I may have filled the carts a bit to quickly as I had some trouble purging. I ran about 5 cleaning cycles and 4 prints of the CMYK purge pattern until I got a good nozzle check. After that, it's been smooth sailing. No clogging, banding, etc. I've spent a great deal of time reading about profiling, color matching, etc. using quad inksets and was prepared for lots of problems trying to get a good match with my monitor. Well, as it turns out, all that worry was for nothing. I get fabulous prints on Somerset PE and Royal Rennaisance with no adjustments at all! The blacks are excellent. Somerset is warmer, but of course the paper base isn't as white as the Royal. Adjusting print tone was simple as well. Just crank the yellow channel in the print driver all the way up (+25) or all the way down (-25) to go from cool to warm. I'm happy I took the plunge. We'll see how the cart refilling goes. Looks like another nightmare, but how hard can it be? Steve Roberts Sudbury, VT
