Yes, the MIS carts can be removed and re-installed.  Most simply put a piece of tape over the outlet.  I often use a syringe with water in it to rinse the ink off the outlet first.  If they are going to be out for a long time, you might also want to tape over the air inlet.  I put mine in a zip lock bag and store them outlet down.
