Re: Silver Prints from Digital Files

2010-03-14 by Clayton Price

Early in this new age some of us were outputting analog negatives
from a digital files. Usually they were output
as 4X5 negs, 4 up on an 8X10 Ektachrome. It worked well for negs that
required very complicated dodging and
burning and/or old, damaged negatives. One could make straight silver
prints quite easily.

Now, I'm in a position of wanting output silver prints from my
scanned vintage negatives. There are 2 or 3 labs in NYC who
do this, on an Illford fiber based paper. They are as much as twice
the price as inkjet prints (gallery quality).
I'm wondering if any of you has experience in this area, and perhaps
could suggest labs around the country
who also offer this service?

The transition period between analog and digital certainly has made
for "interesting times'!

Thanks.
