StudioPrint on a Mac?

StudioPrint on a Mac?

2010-06-05 by Paul Kohl

Does anyone know if StudioPrint (a Windows-only RIP) can be used on a
Mac if one were to employ the Windows emulation capabilities in OS X?
And if so, how it works?
Thanks,
Paul

Paul,

I have been using SP on a Mac with Parallels. It runs much faster than it does on a PC. No issues - no problems... I can still run my Mac apps at the same time.

This morning I downloaded a demo version of StudioPrint 12. It installed without difficulty in a Windows 7 virtual machine created by Parallels Desktop on my Intel iMac. Because I did not have a serial number, I could only run the "classic" version. As far as I can tell everything worked properly. It installed a driver for my Epson 4880, located on a wireless network. I could not actually get a print out because of some kind of issue with the ink (wrong inkset installed for the print job). StudioPrint had finished its job, and the Windows printing reported the error... as did the LCD display on the printer itself. Since I have printed to this machine from Qimage in the same Win7/Parallels virtual machine, I know that once the driver has the information, it *can* print properly. So the problem is just a matter of getting the settings right in StudioPriint.

So basically, it seems that StudioPrint will work in MacIntel Win7 virtual machines. It did not seem particularly slow, either, but I'll leave those things to people who want spend the time on a program I can't really afford.

I use VMware. Have done this for the past year or so. Works much better than on some crappy PC hardware. And I can boot the OS in about 5 seconds!
