BO printing using Eboni on Canson Rag Photographique ?

BO printing using Eboni on Canson Rag Photographique ?

2010-07-28 by benoit.lantoine

Hello everybody, I'm Benoit and I live in France.

I have an Epson P50 (US model = Artisan 50) which replaces Epson R260/R280.

I tried Claria BO with claria inks on Canson Rag Photographique but I always have a green cast.

I would like to use another ink in order to avoid this cast (I've tried combinations of color and black inks under QTR but didn't enjoyed the results).

I've read threads here, Paul's and inksupply's website and it seems that an ink like MIS eboni can be neutral to warm depending on the paper.

It looks like the most neutral would be Epson Hot press natural but it does not exists in A4 format and looks quite expensive.
Premier's papers are hard to find here so I wanted to know if someone had experience with this ink and paper.

Last question : It looks like I have to buy empty cartridges because the printer would not deal with a 3rd part cartridge and original epson cartridges. Since I want to make BO prints, could I fill the other cartridges with a product like MIS clear base fluid ? (http://www.inksupply.com/product-details.cfm?pn=ESC-BASE-4-UC)

Thanks,
Benoit.

"this ink and paper" = Eboni Black Only and Canson Rag Photographique.

Thanks.

The print tones for papers printed with Eboni black only are going to be a lot like those shown for the 1800 3-MK process. See http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/R1800-No-OBA-Paper.pdf and http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/R1800-OBA-Papers.pdf

I do not have any experience with the Canson Rag paper, but most papers are going to be similar to the warmer paper tones shown in the 1800 materials, above.

Yes, that would work. I use the generic base described at http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/Ink-Mixing.pdf

Hope this helps.
