3 week old 1400 starting to squeak

3 week old 1400 starting to squeak

2010-12-30 by Yan

I've had my Epson 1400 for three weeks now and it is working very well. The only thing is that in the last week or so it starting to develop a squeaking noise. The noise is linked to some part of the paper advance mechanism. It sounds as if some parts need lubrication (not that I am thinking of adding any).

Too many BW prints on thick fine art paper (Mostly EpsonHotPressNatural and HahnePhotoRag plus lots of EEM for proofing)? Any remedies? Anything that needs to be cleaned?

Print quality is not affected btw...just that I don't want to cause any unnecessary wear and tear

Might just be dust from the paper, blow out everywhere with a can of air.

My 1400 is about a year or so older, but it also has developed the squeaks. I just attributed this to the onset of cold, dry winter air here in the NE. Has the same effect on my old bones.

My printers work much better with higher humidity. That's not usually a
problem in South Carolina, but in the winter, I run a humidifier in the room
with the printer. Seems to stop all clogging and squeaking.
