R300 and QTR - problem with ink separation test page

2011-07-19 by Marek

Hallo everybody,
I'm new on this group and hope you'll help me to start with B&W printing (which I also need to create digital negatives).
Yesterday I bought R300 printer with some cheap third party cartridges.
I printed Ink Separation Test Page from QTR and it was printed in grayscale only. I read QTR User Guide by Tom Moore, but I can not figure out where I do mistake.
Second question is about black dye ink mixing. Where can I find some hints (like base mixing or dilution ratio) for 2, 3, or 4-tone black inks?

Best regards,
Marek

I'm not sure what you mean here. QTR does convert an RGB file to gray scale, as I understand it. On the other hand, whatever is in the cartridges will be printed, so if there is color there it will be printed. QTR, however, is a B&W rip, not intended for color work.

See http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/BW-Dye.pdf

Note that the dyes and base I'm talking about there are Claria type dyes. I have no idea whether the base formula there is appropriate for the dyes you're dealing with.
