IPad App.

IPad App.

2011-09-14 by ben

I am wondering if anyone using this group have tried any of the apps for viewing photographs from the USB port of their camera, through an iPad?

The one in the iPad does not do what I would like.

I would like to be able to vew what I do in the field as I work. I have been using an old PowerBook, but would like to lighten my load. The iPAd fits in my camera vest.

Ben,
I use it..and for what it is it's ok.. The biggest issue is that it needs to be in proximity to a laptop or puter capable of wireless as that is how it works.. Anyway I use it both out doors for shooting bird set ups and also in the studio occasionally. In the studio typically I'm tethered via a USB cable and use Nikon's software.. As a note you can have this and your iPod/Pad going at the same time and shoot from either but the files end up in different places as you have to install the server software for the Pod/Pad ..(Never tried in on a Mac but it does it on a PC)
Outside I use a small dual core Asus netbook that has wireless and it sits in a small net thing hanging from the tripod.. Works fine for what I'm doing but not as slick as being tethered.. If your having range issue you can try using a D-link usb wireless ..It a little large but has much better range then the built in stuff. It has a couple of quirks in live view but you can work around them..

Ben,
I have been doing some research on the subject and can suggest that you Google: Eye-Fi+iPad. You can also Google: TetherTools, they have a lot of info and solutions.

I am leaning towards using the Eye-Fi SD Card configured in "direct mode" and the ShutterSnitch iPad app. About a $100 investment (plus iPad).

Good Luck
