Management suggestions: On line submissions vs wall display???
2011-10-25 by Lew Schwartz
Recently I had the opportunity to exhibit some work at a 'digital' gallery, ie large monitors on the wall, images managed from a central computer. Without giving this too much thought, I chose my images from some stuff that has produced some really good black & white prints, exported to jpg's and sent them off. Since the luminances of the wall monitors were what you'd normally see on most computers and not the dialed down brightnesses I use to match my prints ... my stuff on the monitors looked like garbage, the deepest 'black' you could see was charcoal grey. Ugh! There's a more general situation I need to understand as well: on line submissions of work that will be displayed as prints. Kinda the same thing, no? So, how does one manage this? Are these simply two sets of outputs and not just one seen twice? Any rules of thumb? -Lew S [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
