Bronzing and Lab ab values with 0/45 degree spectrometer optical geometry

Bronzing and Lab ab values with 0/45 degree spectrometer optical geometry

2011-12-02 by Ernst Dinkla

Mixing HP Vivera PK for B&W thermal head inks and trying to get rid of
bronzing some issues appear in spectro measurements.
With an Eye 1 Basic without the UV cut filter I already get different
(but possibly more exact) ab values than users of other spectrometers or
colorimeters get but I also wondered about the influence of bronzing on
spectrometer measurements. I got one hit while googling (Datacolor) that
confirmed my suspicion; bronzing does influence the spectrometer
results. No wonder given the common 45 reflective angle used in the
optics. So be careful and use your eyes as well in cases like that. It
may not have much influence on the greyscale steps measurements but the
ab values translated to the softproof is not 1:1 to the actual color at
the normal viewing angle. Another reason to get rid of bronzing.
