To feed or not to feed

To feed or not to feed

2012-02-29 by sethrus

My 2400 gave it up!! Just guessing that repair will equal or exceed a new printer, I am opting for the latter.

This time I am going to separate B&W from color and buy two new ones.

However, Epson double-speak has me stymied!! Both the 1100 and 1400/1430 show specifics of paper weights they handle as .09-.11mm and 24lb to 27 lb. These are all light. Yet they turn around and show acceptable papers as Pre. Photo paper Glossy (68lb.), Ultra Prem PP Glossy (79 lb.) and Ultra Prem. Pres.Paper Matte (192 gsm). So, what's up with that?

Really, what is the max (matte paper) these printers will do without pizza wheels/rub marks? Will they handle 200-250gsm reliably, or will the head be too close?

Thanks,

Seth

Seth,

I've feed 350gsm H ahnemuehle Muesuem Etching through my 1400 without issue. Sometimes it needs a little shove to get started.

Davi-

Thank you for that. I think my max is 225-250 gsm. and the 2400 needed a boost with that.
