New Display Calibrators and Lost Gamut (resend)

New Display Calibrators and Lost Gamut (resend)

2012-08-09 by C D Tobie

Here's an article I just completed on an interesting phenomenon: newer generation calibrators from multiple manufacturers appearing to "lose gamut" when calibrating displays, compared to the previous generation of calibrators. I'll make an extra effort to assure that the URL is not parsed out this time...

Thank you! I just experienced this last week going from an older Monaco calibrator to a Spyder4Elite. I switched over to a newer calibrator amid concerns that my older Monaco wasn't adapted/optimised for the newer backlit and edgelit LEDs, Plasma's or even the ISP/Super ISP flat panels vs the older TN flat panel monitors. I had purchased the Monaco when CRT's still ruled the earth and it was basically astericked as being able to somewhat work on flat panel LCDs.

I recall working with Monaco on these products, back in the day. You have moved several generations forward in one huge leap. I expect you'll find S4Elite to be faster and easier, as well as more accurate. And there is a whole set of display analysis tools at the end that you will want to run, to get a baseline on the state of your display, and to get an idea of the quality of it.
