Epson HW Matte vs. Archival Matte .. ?

Epson HW Matte vs. Archival Matte .. ?

2012-08-13 by jffelinik

I've understood so far that the Epson Archival Matte contains acid, and is not so very archival. How about the HW Matte? And how big differences are there in tones of these two?

I kind of like the slightly off white tone in the Archival Matte (using MIS UT-14), and I think I'm mostly curious about if the HW Matte is a good alternative, or if it's just as bad?

Thanks!

I was going to suggest the same. Besides being more archival, I get
higher d-max on HPN than on AM (with Eboni-6), and it has a very
pleasant warm tone.

Thanks guys!

I'm trying to find this in A4 in Europe, not an easy task, seems they're out of stock all over...

:/

Being myself in Europe, I'm not sure if I ever saw it in A4. I get mine
in A3+ and cut it. (Got it from the Epson online store, but this is not
the cheapest source.)

The same price as the EAM or Heavyweight ? I do not see identical
pricing here and given the weight and cotton content I would not expect it.

The HPN is here also only available in A3 size and up.

For papers with similar pricing as the EAM but better quality, the Red
River Aurora Natural 230 grams, HP Matte Litho-Realistic 270 grams and
Innova IFA24 and IFA25 210 grams come to mind. The first two with an
Aardenburg test. No OBA content so warmer than EAM that has OBA content
and is more neutral/cool than off-white. Lab 96.3 0.6 -2.1 and Hot Press
Natural Lab 97.4 -0.1 3.9
