HVLP for Eboni luster prints

Hi i have been reading up on varnishing prints. I have try with airbrush and actual brush method, with the airbrush coating too thin and too many imperfections with actual brush.
I am thinking of trying it with HVLP probably wagner's anyone with experience with which grade to get? (meaning the 50 usd , 90 usd , 140 usd range?) does it need a compressor?
