Easy, easy, easy\u2026

Get the short cartridges that allow you to close the door. Get them on ebay where they are cheapest, by far. You are safe ordering from Hong Kong dealers on ebay. Use PayPal just to be sure. They are all the same, despite what some US sellers may try to tell you. (He DID NOT have them specially designed for himself.) Buy your inks from MIS (http://www.inksupply.com). Very helpful and they know their stuff. Sometimes they get very busy. They are a small operation. Be patient if you happen to catch them at a busy time. Their web site is a bit frustrating too. There are places where you can pay triple for the same ink, though!

Do not be tempted to buy the long cartridges. They have a defect that is serious. (No, the guy who claims he solved that defect did in fact, not!)

Be patient with yourself! This takes a while to learn. It is very hands-on, but is worth it.

i-Refill Cartridges for the 3800

2013-11-20 by mwesley250

Does anyone have any experience with the i-Refill cartridges for the Epson
Pro 3800? Or any other recommendations for using 3rd party B&W inks with
this printer?

Thanks,
Martin

I've been using Jon Cone's refillable cartridges on my 3800 for about 2 years and they've operated perfectly. But you have to keep two things in mind with these carts. To initiate first time ink flow or if you let them run to empty, you have to prime them by drawing any air and first ink flow with the syringe that comes with the cart. Also, you need to check the carts from time to time because the 3800 will always show them to be full regardless of how much ink remains.

David,

Thanks for the info. Those big carts looked attractive since I guess you don't have to take them out to refill them. I have been very pleased with the results of the Epson inks on Ilford Fiber Silk and Epson's Exhibition Fiber but the ink costs for the 3800 are just to steep.
