I'm new to B&W printing. I want to use my Epson 1400 for high quality warmtone B&W prints up to 13x19. I have no idea how to set up profiles, what inksets to use, etc. How can I get up to speed? Can someone refer me to books or other reading material? Thanks. How warm do you want them? What kind of paper do you plan to print on? I've been down this road. I got a 1430, using EB6 inks (my printer is now b&W only). I print on Epson Cold Press and Hot Press.I use Hahnemuhle papers too. On Epson the prints are warm and with a good D_Max on Epson, a little bit better on Hahnemuhle.

Is there any issue with using Eboni pigment inks in the 1430? I'm thinking maybe this is the path for me as well. I thought the 1430 was a dye-based inkjet -- just want to make sure it can run pigment inksets.

They are cheap, so you can afford to blow one up, but will have to work hard to do so. I bought one reluctantly, then was so impressed with it I now have two; one for pigment B&W, one for dye color.
