Epson 1400 & B&W printing 101

Epson 1400 & B&W printing 101

2014-02-25 by <geodesiq@...>

I'm new to B&W printing. I want to use my Epson 1400 for high quality warmtone B&W prints up to 13x19. I have no idea how to set up profiles, what inksets to use, etc. How can I get up to speed? Can someone refer me to books or other reading material? Thanks.

How warm do you want them? What kind of paper do you plan to print on?

I've been down this road. Maybe I can save you some pain and aggravation.

Hi

I got a 1430, using EB6 inks (my printer is now b&W only). I print on Epson Cold Press and Hot Press.I use Hahnemuhle papers too. On Epson the prints are warm and with a good D_Max on Epson, a little bit better on Hahnemuhle.

Is there any issue with using Eboni pigment inks in the 1430? I'm thinking maybe this is the path for me as well. I thought the 1430 was a dye-based inkjet -- just want to make sure it can run pigment inksets.

I have used 1400's for pigments and dyes for years. They are great printers with either.

Hi

I never looked closely at that factor since InkSupply is promoting the pure carbon pigment EB6 ink for the 1430. In any event, I never had any problem printing with my 1430.

Good luck

Paul Roark sold me on the idea of this wonderful little printer. They are
cheap, so you can afford to blow one up, but will have to work hard to do
so.
I bought one reluctantly, then was so impressed with it I now have two; one
for pigment B&W, one for dye color.

Get one quick, before they improve it! ;-)

That is one of our main risks here.

I have 2, one of which has had a hard life, mule rides into High Sierra workshops among other things, and it just keeps going!

Note also that while I have one for color (Claria or Noritsu -- the bulk source) and one for Eb6, those inks appear to be compatible in the sense that you can have them in the same machine at the same time and swap back and forth between them.
