Epson 3880 and Error 1224

Epson 3880 and Error 1224

2015-01-30 by highdefs@...

Hi every one,

Hello to all the pixel masters. I'm new here so please excuse the nooob questions.

Google brought me here for the wisdom you offer to pilgrims. My question to Google was:

Background info:

I am offered an Epson 3880 printer as an exchange for some work ( teaching Algebra to a class of failed kids ). The Epson 3880 printer gives the dreaded Error 1224 as soon as the user attempts to print on anything thicker than stationary paper.

Is the above printer capable of printing on materials for Jon Cone B&W " negative " film - considering the Error 1224 ( thick media error ) ?

Thanks and looking forward to your guidance.

According to the Epson service manual, Error 1224 is nothing to do with
media thickness, but an out of dsync problem with the paper feed system.
The manual states:

"The positioning error detected by the PF encoder fell outside the
specified limits."

Three possible remedies are offered:

1: Check that the PF timing belt is properly attached.
2: Check the PF timing belt\u2019s tension. Correct it if not proper.
3: Replace the PF motor

So it looks like a job for a skilled engineer. Hope this helps

David

David,
Interesting find. I did use Google to search around the Error code ( Google brought me here ).

Ok, I think the 3880 should go to Epson service centre a soon as i get it.
I'll report back the progress, incase the community members are interested.

Thanks for taking time
