Eboni-6 Variable Tone - (more or less) the same results with 1400 and 3880?

Eboni-6 Variable Tone - (more or less) the same results with 1400 and 3880?

2016-02-26 by Thilo Resenhoeft

Hello everybody,

I'm following Paul Roarks great work on the Eboni-6 Variable Tone inkset
with the blue toner
(http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/Eboni-Variable-Tone.pdf)
(Thanks for sharing your results, Paul!)

I've equipped a 1400 with this inkset. Everything works well (using QTR).
In addition, I have a 3880 sitting next to my desk. Now my question: Is
there any use for having
this inkset in a 1400 AND in a 3880? (Right now I don't really need
prints greater than 13x19 inch)
In other words: Will I see any difference between a 13x19 print made
with an 1400 and one from the 3880?

Of course, the curves are different, the dilution of the toner is
different,
and the number of ink channels used is different. So I'll have to
relinearize the
3880 curves for my papers here in Germany, as I did with the curves for
the 1400.
But besides these points - are there "substantial" differences between
Eboni-6 Variable Tone
in a 1400 and a 3880? Or will the results be (more or less) the same?

Thanks for your advice,
best wishes from Germany,
Thilo

They are the same.

(The toner strength difference can be adjusted by the ink limit and looking at the 90% v. 75% dilution ratio.)

The 1400 has a slight advantage in that carts never need agitating, but they again you have to refill them more often.
