[Digital BW] Help selecting MIS ink system

Harrison, >1) Would I be better off getting the CFS system or refilling carts? >... Once you know which inkset you want to use, get a CFS. They usually don't need to be used every day to avoid clogging. Low humidity and possible high elevation seem to be problems for both carts and CFSs. But most use the CIS or CFS systems with no problems. >2) The full spectrum inks look like a nice ink...are they more toward >the warmish side or are they cold? If cold it a "white" cold or a >"blue" cold...I do not mind white cold, but blue cold is not to my >tastes at all. The standard FS is what I'd call medium warm. The FS-neutral is 0.02 density units cool at 50% according to my spectrophotometer. That is, the cyan channel reads 0.02 units higher than the yellow channel. >In the "wet" printing I use the Agfa MCC 118 FB paper developed in >LPD dilution 1:3. I used Kodak Polymax Fine Art fiber based paper in Dektol, and toned in selenium 1:19 for 3 minutes. The result is fairly neutral in the midtones, and cool in the shadows. I think the FS-N looks better next to these silver prints than does the standard FS. The FS-N will also warm less than the other quads. As you can see, ink selection is both subjective and tough without samples. I'm not sure if MIS has samples available. The variable-tone approach of the MIS VM inkset gives you control over tone and may be another option to consider. Good luck. Paul http://www.PaulRoark.com
