Seeking Scanner Sagacity

Hi: I'd really welcome a bit of advice on scanners--flat beds (the first level of compromise). Mainly, it would be for 120 and 4x5 film, but also old family photos, to be scanned and printed, rarely bigger than 11x17, on an Epson 1160, with MIS VM, with Paul's curves. So far, it seems the Epson 2450 might be a reasonable choice, but I'm wondering (under the pleasure/pain principle) if I could get something very substantially superior, say,by doubling my investment. More specifically, would machines like the PowerLook III or Linoscan 1400 or Epson 1680, and their respective software packages, be worth the additional bucks? Many, many thanks for your help.
