Digital BW, The Print

I've been using the VM inkset for a few short weeks now with an Epson 
1160 printing on Epson HWM paper and I consistently get a "solarized" 
effect in the very low tones of the image.

I am doing a nozzle check prior to printing to make sure 
everything is printing properly.

My basic workflow is to scan B&W negs in 16 bit. Edit and adjust in 
PS and then covert to 24 bit RGB and load the printing curve supplied 
by Paul Roak following the printer driver settings outlined for the 
1160 and a PC.

Can someone share the cure for this problem? I'm stumped.
